Consent to Telehealth Services
1. Nature of Service
Acules facilitates connections to healthcare providers and patient coordination services. When you participate in a video or phone consultation arranged through the Acules platform, you may be communicating with:
- Acules Patient Coordinators: Non-clinical staff who assist with logistics, cost estimates, and hospital selection. Coordinators are not licensed healthcare providers and do not provide medical advice or diagnoses.
- Hospital Representatives: Clinical or administrative staff at partner hospitals who may discuss your treatment options, medical suitability, and proposed care plans. These individuals may be licensed healthcare providers in their jurisdiction.
Acules does not employ physicians or provide medical diagnoses, treatment plans, or medical advice. All clinical decisions are made by qualified healthcare professionals at our partner hospitals.
2. Video Consultation Consent
By participating in a video consultation arranged through the Acules platform, you consent to the following:
- The consultation may be conducted via a third-party video platform (such as Zoom or a similar service). By using these services, you are also subject to their terms of service.
- Acules may use secure conferencing technology to facilitate the call. We do not record consultations without your explicit prior consent.
- You understand that video consultations have limitations compared to in-person consultations, including technical limitations and the inability to conduct physical examination.
- You understand that coordinator consultations do not constitute a medical consultation or establish a physician-patient relationship with Acules.
3. Information Sharing Consent
To facilitate your medical travel consultation and referral, you may be asked to share health-related information, including:
- Medical history, diagnoses, and prior treatments
- Current medications and allergies
- Relevant imaging, lab results, or physician notes
- Insurance and payment information
By submitting health information through the Acules platform or sharing it during a consultation, you consent to Acules securely sharing this information with the partner hospital or hospitals you are considering for your procedure. This sharing is necessary to obtain an accurate quote and to allow the hospital's clinical team to assess your suitability for the procedure.
Acules handles health information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law. When applicable, we operate as a business associate under HIPAA.
4. Limitations
You acknowledge the following limitations of telehealth and remote consultation services:
- Technical failures may interrupt or degrade the quality of a video consultation.
- Remote consultations cannot replace the full assessment available through an in-person examination with a physician.
- A coordinator consultation does not constitute a second medical opinion. You should consult with your own physician for medical advice about your condition.
- Any clinical information provided by a partner hospital representative during a remote consultation is subject to change after in-person examination at the hospital.
5. Withdrawal of Consent
You may withdraw your consent to telehealth consultations at any time by contacting us at support@acules.com. Withdrawal of consent will not affect any care already in progress. If you withdraw consent, we may be unable to continue providing referral and coordination services.
